Alfa Romeo is an Italian automotive manufacturer which is a part of the Fiat Group. The company was initially named A.L.F.A which translates to Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. Alfa Romeo cars have won numerous Car of the Year awards and are some of the most attractive cars in the Italian market. The broad front grille, flute panel doors, wide and pointy head and tail lights are a signature look for this Italian automaker. Alfa Romeo is a glamorous alternative to the plain style of the Ford, and is the Italian answer to more expensive cars like the Mercedes Sport Coupe and Audi A3 which offer similar features. The Alfa Romeo GT Coupe came with a choice of four engines, in three different versions. The least powerful is the 1.9 liter MultiJet 16v turbodielsel which generates 150 bhp; a 165 bhp 2.0 JTS direct injection petrol and 3.2 liter 24v petrol which generates 240 bhp. Starting from October 2007, the 150 bhp JTDM engines in Alfa GT were fitted with a limited slip diff. This allows for increased sensitivity for increased road handling and traction even during sudden accelerations in low grip conditions. The slip diff. helps divide the torque equally between the two front wheels and allows for dynamic changes in response to varying driving and surface conditions. The Alfa DOHC found in the RWD is the perfect choice for tuning aficionados.
All the variants of the engine including the 1200,1600,1750,1800,1800 turbo and 2000 which were fitted to the Guilettas, Spiders, Berlinas, Guilas, 155s.75s and Alfettas. Alfa Romeo’s engine design started off when they developed a flat-4 water cooled engine for their new model, the Alfasud. The original design was a 1.2 L which generated 63 -68 hp. This engine was later incorporated into the Alfa Romeo Arna, Nissan Cherry and the Alfa Romeo 33. The 1300 engine series sported a 1.3 L engine with the stroke being increased from the previous 59mm to 64 mm. This created an additional 75 horses and allowed the engine to be placed in a slightly bulkier Alfa Romer Alfasud and Alfa Romeo 33. The largest member of the Alfa Romeo family has to be the 1500 version which is a 1.5 L 105 hp engine that was largest engine to be naturally found in Alfasuds. However, over the course of time many models like the Clan Clover and the Alfa Romeo Arna adopted it as well.
