Jaguar is a proud member of an illustrious history in motor manufacturing, as of late they have been experiencing a revival thanks to their high performing and innovative vehicles. The brand is distinctly recognizable due to its jaguar mascot which adorns the bonnet with its distinctly aggressive and sleek shape. Jaguar created quite a stir in the 50s with its range of sports cars and luxury saloons. The company was acquired by Ford in 1989 and since then has been constantly reinventing its premium vehicles into sheer masterpieces like the XK series. The lightweight aluminum body which all Jaguars come with is a vital reason for their sublime handling, incredible agility and superb safety.

Jaguar launched the new XK in 2006, both as a convertible and a coup. The XK is crafted out of a unique all-aluminum monocoque chassis. The styling retains the legendary jag features with a mean and muscular look, powerful engine, and opulent interiors. All of Jaguar’s engines are designed in-house which makes them very reliable. Jaguar’s V12 was a much acclaimed powerhouse during the 80s. This V12 piston engine first showed up in the Series 3 E-type and was somewhat inspired by the design for the ill fated Jaguar XJ13 which was meant to compete at Le Mans but never did. Only one of the XJ13 was ever produced and it is valued at £7 million. The V12 was only the second Jaguar engine to ever go into production. The all alloy block featured removable wet liners and came fitted with an SOHC 2-valve alloy head replete with flat combustion chambers. Jaguar released a 5.3L version which featured an oversquare, 70 mm stroke and a 90 mm bore. It generated 285 hp and 400 Nm of torque. As soon as the production of the engine for the Series 3 E-Type was initiated the V12 engine was fitted with a Lucas OPUS electronic ignition. The V12 used this system up to 1982 when Lucas introduced the CEI system. When it was first introduced, the OPUS ignition amp unit was directly secured to the engine and hence became a problem; later cars had the amplifier moved away from the cylinders where they could get more air. The cars which came fitted with this version of the engine were the Jaguar E-Type, Panther de Ville, Panther J72, Jaguar XJS, Jaguar XJ12 and the Daimler Double-Six series.
