Lexus is the luxury vehicle manufacturing division of the Japanese auto giant Toyota Motor Corporation. The car was first introduced in the US and would go on to become one of the best selling luxury cars. Lexus was launched in Japan in 2005, which marked the continuous expansion of this luxury model. Lexus has launched a unique and comprehensive design language christened the L-finesse for the LF series concept cars. The L-finesse went into production with the launch of the 2006 Lexus GS model. It is characterized by sculptured body panels and the repetitive use of motifs within and outside the car. The design concept took harsh criticism as it was perceived to be too conservative for the slick and stylish luxury market. Every year and for the last 14 years Ward’s Auto World has been rating the top 10 engines of the year. Last year it was the 3.5L DOHC V6 which is fitted in the Lexus IS 350. The editors start off with a candidate group of 37 vehicles, the prerequisites being that the engines that they are judging power regular production vehicles and are within the price ceiling of $54,000. Also, the cars have to have been on sale during the first quarter of the year. Over a period of 60 days the magazine reps put the engines through a series of tests which measure “objective and subjective parameters” and finally strike down the group to the 10 most worthy. The Lexus DOHC 3.5L V6 uses a number of technologies such as dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence, electronic throttle control, Acoustic Control Induction System (ACIS), roller rocker arms, and Sequential multi-port Fuel Inject (SFI). The engine sets the bar for an exceptionally smooth drive, efficient fuel consumption, and power output. It even achieves the ULEV –II emissions certificate. The engine gives a decent city/highway fuel economy of 18/25 mpg, the power and torque outputs are 306 at 6,400 and 277 lb-ft at 4800 rpm. These all add up to a remarkable set of numbers.
