Lincoln is actually a Luxury Car manufacturer in America that is operated by the Ford Motor Company. Lincoln itself was founded by Henry M. Leland in the year 1917 by and then acquired by the Ford Motor Company in the year 1922. The company, however, still manufactures vehicles which have been planned for upscale markets ever since the 1920s. The manufacturer named the company after Abraham Lincoln--his longtime hero and for whom he had voted during his first presidential elections.
Lincoln Y-block V8 Engine
The V8 Lincoln engine was basically the earliest V8 OHV engine of Ford and was launched by Lincoln in the year 1952. Similar to the well known Ford Y-block engine, the deep skirts of the V8 Lincoln engine made the block look like the letter Y in front of the name. This particular development was done in reply to the success sales of the challenging Oldsmobile, also called the Rocket V8 overhead valve engine, that was launched in 1948. The design of this engine was actually produced the year 1957 as it was designed to replace the latest MEL engine.
Lincoln L-Head V12 engine
The Lincoln division of the Ford Motor Company started producing the V12 engine at the same time that the Ford Motor Company had introduced their Flathead V8 (in the year 1932). The Lincoln L-head V12 engine series includes the 448, 382 and 414 engines. The original 448 Lincoln V12 engine was used in a large scale in the Model KB line during 1932 and 1933. This particular engine produced nearly 150hp and was an unusual 65 degree L-head design. It included a large crankshaft that was supported by 7 main bearings. However, the 382 V12 engine was introduced by Lincoln and it replaced the V8 engine in the KA model.
Lincoln Liberty engine
The Lincoln Liberty engine was actually the main type of engine that was produced by the company during the first world war. Unfortunately the V8 engine of Lincoln was completed too late to be of any help during the war. The V8 engine was accommodated in the new Lincoln L-Series but the car took a long time to find a place in the market. It was purchased by Ford Motor Company to give it a strong base. The vehicle was redesigned as the Model K and it would be two years before it would include the new L-head V12 engine of Lincoln.
