Nissan uses a simple and straightforward method for naming its engines, the first three or four letters designates the engine family and the following digits denote the displacement in deciliters. Letter D denoted DOHC, Variable Valve Timing , E signifies Electronic fuel injection, HR denotes High Response and High Revolution, I denotes Throttle Body Fuel Injection, R for Supercharged, T signifies Turbocharged and TT for Twin-Turbocharged. Nissan manufactures five different types of engines, it had displayed the prototype for the Wankel engine but it never made to the production area. The Straight 4 or inline 4 is basically a four cylinder with all the four cylinders fitted in a straight line across a crankcase. The cylinders possess a single bank which may be vertically or inclined; all of the pistons will be driving the same common crankshaft. When it is inclined it is sometimes referred to as a slant-4. This engine allows for a certain degree of simplicity and has made it a popular choice for economy cars. This configuration is common in cars that have a displacement of up to 2.4 liters. However, the normal “practical” displacement limit specified for a straight-4 engine is 2.7 liters.
SWEngines stocks a variety of Nissan engines including the 4-cylinder 1.6 liter, the 1.8 L Turbo, The 200SX – V6 3.0 Liter and many more. The site has a range of engines for the Nissan Armada, Nissan Prairie and Nissan Altima. The Nissan Armada features a 5.6 L VK56DE V8 engine with 5 speed automatic transmission and is capable of generating 317 hp. The Armada was specifically designed for the North American market and was launched in 2004. The Armada's powerful engine gives it an impressive towing capacity of 9,100 lbs. Though consumer reports point to reliability problems in both the Armada and its upscale version, QX56, Nissan claims that it has been sorted out the issues in the 2008 models. The Nissan Frontier is the American name for the D22 and D40 generation of the popular Nissan Datsun Truck. The Frontier was introduced in 1997 as a replacement for the Nissan Hardbody Truck. Nissan had initially fitted the Frontier with a –cylinder engine but later came up with a second version which had a V6 engine. The Frontier Bravado was a renovated version of the initial model and features the TD27 I4 direct diesel engine which is capable of generating 176nm of torque and 84 horsepower.
