Porsche is world renowned for its impeccable design and over-all quality. Their race car designs are known to be some of the best in the world. A classic example is that of the Porsche Cayenne, when it was first released there was a huge uproar that Porsche should stick to making sports car and not poke their head into the SUV market. Executives at Porsche expected to sell about 20,000 units in one year, but the Cayenne’s stunning balance of style, comfort and performance was far too irresistible to the masses. The Cayenne went on to sell 150,000 units and when the new restyled version was released, sales took off and hit record levels in 2007. Porsche took 34 yrs of continuous development for the redesign of the legendary rear-engine 911.
Porsche Cayenne (955) engines came in ten variants; the first to be introduced was the 3.2 liter V6 which generated 250 hp, then the 4.5 liter 340 hp V8, 4.5 liter V8 bi-turbo which generated an additional 110 hp and a 4.5 liter 521 hp were released. In 2007 Porsche released the Direct Fuel injection series which included the 3.6 liter 290 hp V6, 4.8 liter 385 hp V8, 4.8 liter 405 hp V8,4.8 liter 500 hp V8 bi-turbo, 4.8 liter 540 hp V8 bi-turbo and the 4.8 liter 550 hp V8 bi turbo. Porsche offered a tuning choice with the 540 hp V8 bi turbo. However, this option was restricted to a few countries. Porsche also developed a massive 5.7 liter V10 engine for the Carrera GT which generated 612 hp. This engine was originally intended to be used for racing but then they changed plans and incorporated it into the commercial version. Porsche also developed a range of hemi-head engines which were used in both commercial and racing cars. It started of with the 2.0 L engine which generated 130 hp, then came the 4.9L which was fitted into the 917 race edition which developed a respectable 630 hp. Finally Porsche came up with a forced induction race 5.4L race engine which spewed a massive 1100 hp.
