Scion xA is a compact car which was sold in the United States. The car is based on the first generation Toyota Vitz hatchback and also shares the main parts with the Toyota Platz sedan. The xA features stiffer suspension, bigger brakes, and rear stabilizer bars compared to the Toyota Echo. When the car was first sold in California, it proved to be slow selling model which doused Toyota’s enthusiasm to further promote the car in the American market. The xA featured a 1.5 L DOHC I4 engine which generated 108 hp and a torque of 105 ft-lb at 4500 rpm. The car has a drag coefficient of 0.31 and can reach 60mph from start in 9.4 seconds. The car has a fuel economy rating of 32 mpg /38 mpg for manual and automatic transmission respectively.
The Scion xD is a five-door hatchback which replaced the xA. The car was launched on February 8th, 2007 at the Chicago Auto Show and the car hit showroom floors in the summer of 2007. This car comes with power locks, mirrors and 16” tires in its standard configuration. You can also add ABS, cruise control, side curtain airbags, and a tire pressure gauge. The sole factory installed accessory is a Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) coupled with Traction Control (TRAC). This car features front-wheel drive and is powered by a 2ZR-FE DOHC 1.8 liter VVT-i engine with four cylinders which generates 128 bhp and a torque of 125 lbs. The engine can be coupled with either a five-speed manual or a four speed automatic transmission.
The Scion tC is a subcompact car manufactured by Toyota under the Scion brand. The car was intended to appeal to a younger crowd, which they did by throwing in numerous standard features, allowing easy tuning and incorporation of additional features. The Scion tC makes use of the same chassis as that of the Avensis and is powered by the Camry’s 2.4 L 2AZ-FE-I4. Its low cost combined with its features allowed Toyota to make good inroads into the American base market. The name tC is quite an anomaly from it’s siblings like xA, xB and xD. This is because the name xC was already taken by Volvo for it’s XC90 and XC70 models.
