Toyota Motor Corporation is currently the world's largest automaker, and in terms of recognition it's the only automotive manufacture to appear in the top10 in the Branz name recognition ranking. Toyota Motor Corporation was initially a part of Toyota Industries back when it created the Type A engine and a passenger car, the Toyota AA. Toyota owns and manages Lexus and Scion brands, along with holding a major hold of the shares in Daihatsu Motors. Toyota has some 522 subsidiaries which make them one of the biggest names in the automotive arena. The Toyota Classic was a limited edition model which was launched in 1996; it closely resembled the Toyota AA. It used the GA-Y N86 rear-wheel-drive and frame and was powered by a 3Y-E engine which generated 96 bhp and a torque of 118 ft. the interiors of the car were borrowed from a contemporary Toyota, but was spruced up to better suit the car's exterior. The Toyota Aygo is a city car which was launched in 2005. It came in two engine versions, the 1.0 L 1KR-FE which generated 67 hp and a torque of 69 ft-lb and a 1.4 L HDi Diesel I4 version which generated 54 hp and a torque of 96 ft-lb. Toyota recently released the 10th generation of its classic hit, the Corolla.
This immensely popular passenger car has sold more than 30 million units in 140 different countries, with five different models; the Corolla had something for everyone. People who are wanting hatchbacks or all-wheel drive can choose the Toyota Matrix which actually shares many mechanical components with the Corolla. The first generation of the Toyota Matrix was introduced in 2003 and was offered in two versions based on the engines, the 1.8 l 1ZR-FE inline with 88.4 mm stroke, 10.compression ratio and 80.3 bore which was could generate 127 hp and the second performance focused 2ZZ-GW which could generate a much improved 173 hp. In 2006, Toyota stopped the production of 2ZZ-GE engines and dropped the XRS version from the lineup. It was momentarily replaced by M-Theory edition. Like he XRS, the M-Theory was limited to a production of 2500 cars per year. Another commonly used Toyota engine is the Toyota KR series which is a straight-3 piston engine which was designed by Daihatsu. The 1KR series features DOHC cylinder heads and aluminum engine blocks. This series also makes use of single-point fuel injection and comes with a VVT-i.
