Chevrolet had a big hit in 1982 with the introduction of the Chevy Celebrity. In 1986 the Celebrity was the best selling car in the United States. Despite its popularity, the Celebrity was continued for only one generation.
Chevrolet offered the mid size car as a replacement for the Malibu and it came it in 3 body styles: the two door coupe, the four sedan and a 4 door station wagon. Three different power trains were offered with each of the body styles however the most popular Celebrity engine choice by far was the 2.8L V6.
Although technically it was available for only one generation, the Celebrity saw several facelifts through out its 8 year run. It received its first facelift in 1984, and the other in 1986, which included a sleeker front end and a simpler taillight layout. The Chevy Celebrity coupe was discontinued in 1988 and the Celebrity station wagon saw its demise shortly after in 1989.
