Chevrolet has decided to bring the SSR Pickup back for the 2009 model year. Having given less than a stellar performance when it was first introduced in 2003, the new SSR Pickup received a facelift and a complete redesign before being put back into production.
The 2009 SSR Pickup comes equiped with a 6.0-liter LS2 V8 engine that generates 390 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. The new Chevy SSR engine is much more powerful than its predecessor and is the high performance vehicle that many people expected from the first model.
The retro design pick up truck will seat five passengers comfortably this time around as opposed to the first one offered, which only came as two seaters.
The look was taken from Chevy trucks of the 1940′s and features a symmetrical dash and body-color trim that are reminiscent of the good old days with an elegant modern touch. What’s more the exterior colors come with cool names such as Aqua Blue Metallic, Redline Red, Ricochet Silver Metallic, Slingshot Yellow, and Smokin’ Asphalt.
Designed to be a high performance vehicle and as such it provides an exhilarating ride fee of all the squeaks and rattles that plagued the earlier models. The designers retained the retractable hardtop but added a locable pickup box that offers a cargo capacity of 22.5 cubic feet.
