The 2010 Acura RL With 3.7L V6

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

The 2010 Acura RL has become one of the most popular mid size sedans on the market. With a plush interior and a ride that rivals higher-end European offerings, this Japanese wonder is starting to turn heads. No longer is Acura trying to be known for its high-revving sports cars; now, Acura is making a play at the luxury sedan market. Acura has been pushing toward this goal for a number of years now, with the RL being the pinnacle of its engineering prowess.

The 2010 Acura RL isn’t just about comfort and elegance, however. The 3.7 liter V6 found under the hood is extraordinarily potent, pushing out 300 horsepower to the wheels. While this isn’t a race car by any stretch of the imagination, the RL most certainly will get out of its own way in a pinch. And with maximum horsepower seen at 6300 RPM, Acura doesn’t disappoint with its inclusion of a high-revving engine. To do otherwise would break tradition. Passing on the highway is a breeze with its 271 ft/lbs of torque found at 5000 RPM. If 5000 RPM seems a little too high for passing, don’t worry: The Acura RL has a very flat torque curve, meaning torque is readily available at any speed.

Fuel economy is impressive for a car with this amount of power: The 2010 Acura RL is rated at 16 mpg in the city, with 22 mpg certainly possible on the highway. Naturally, keeping your foot off of the accelerator will do more favors for your fuel economy. However, I challenge anyone behind the wheel of the new RL not to push down from time to time; the sheer acceleration and sound will take your breath away.

2010 Acura TL Engines Not much different over the years

Monday, December 28th, 2009

There is not much new about the 2010 Acura TL but a few details are worth mentioning. The TL is one of the best mid-size luxury sedans available and all the bells and whistles make it a tech –lover’s dream. The TL was just redesigned in 2009 and in 2010 a few engine options are available.

The body of the 2010 Acura TL has been criticized for being “odd.” A beveled nose and giant rear-end gave the TL an unusual shape to be sure but this style also improved interior space. The cabin is not only quiet of also one of the most comfortable out there. The TL goes with an engaging aluminum trim unlike the glossy wood of some of the other cars in its class. The front seating is completely adjustable and the rear seats have enough leg room for even the tallest of passengers. Flip-up headrests round out the cabin, providing comfort and safety for those sitting in the back.

To be honest, Acura engines haven’t changed much in years, although their base engines fluctuate a few points here and there in horsepower and torque. The standard engine for the TL is a 3.5L V6. The 3.5L can produce 280 horsepower and 254 lb/ft of torque. For improved performance the SH-AWD style offers Acura’s most powerful engine, the 3.7L V6. This is the same engine featured in the popular Acura MDX SUV. The 3.7L rates at 305 horsepower and 273 lb/ft of torque. Acceleration for the two engines is identical with a 0 -60 mph time of 6.7 seconds. The 3.5L gets 18 mpg city and 26 mpg on the highway while the 3.7L is 17 mpg city/25 mpg highway. These fuel economy ratings are the same whether using the 6-speed manual transmission or the automatic

European Luxury and Performance on America’s Roads

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

What car delivers the elegance and technology of a luxury car but leaves the price tag over in Europe? The Acura by Honda has filled this role. First introduced in the United States in 1986, the Acura is a part of the Honda Corporation. The American consumer was immediately attracted by not only the beauty of the car and all of its features, but the name Honda backing it. Honda had already become associated with quality automobiles in the United States and this was their newly created luxury branch.

When the Acura was first introduced in the U.S. it consisted of two models, there was the Legend Sedan and the Integra Sport Coupe and Sedan. The cars were an immediate success here and the American consumer was hungry for more. Over the next few decades the Acura name became associated with high performance, low maintenance, top notch technology and affordability, when compared, as it often is, to the European luxury cars. Over the next few decades Acura has introduced a number of models some with more success than others, though records show American consumers love this automobile. It is interesting to note that the Acura was specifically developed for the North American market and is still not sold in Japan or in Europe.

The Acura has changed with the times. They are still developing plans for new models and still have a fan club in the American market. Some of the models introduced since the beginning of the new millennium are:
The MDX which is an SUV first marketed in the U.S. in 2001
The Acura RSX Sports Coupe which was the successor of The Integra
The TSX a sports sedan which was introduced in 2004.
In 2004 and 2005 Acura improved upon the midsize TL Sedan and The RL Luxury Sedan both with great success.

Consumers have had an extremely positive reaction to the Acura since its introduction in 1986. That matched with the very high reviews by top automobile raters, has created an avenue for still further development and extensions of this car. In 2009 and 2010 Acura will add to its already impressive base of driving machines. Future Acura models will include The 2010 ZDX and the 2011 Acura RL.

In its relatively short history, Honda’s Acura has left a huge impression on its targeted market and there is no reason to think it will be slowing down. As long as the American consumer is looking for performance, style, and technology at a price that allows for all of these aspects at a cost far less than other luxury models, Acura will remain in the American driveways and on our highways for some time to come.
