The Chevy Camaro was first produced in 1966 as competition for Ford's newly released Mustang. It was offered through 4 generation changes before being discontinued in 2002, with the 1st generation in production from 1966 through 1969. It was offered with several engine options but the 307 cu in (5.0 L) engine proved to be the most popular.
1970 saw the birth of the second generation of Camaro and this body style would see many redesigns and upgrades throughout its 11 year run.
The third generation of camaro saw the introduction of two special editions and ran from 1982 through 1992. It was during this time period that the famous IROC-Z came into production.
In 1993 Chevrolet redesigned the Camaro engine and offered the car with both a V6 and a V8 power plant for the first time. The fourth generation Camaro was offered until the year 2002. With sales decling and the sport coupe market on the wan, 2002 saw the end of 35 years of continuous production.
