The Chevrolet Malibu, named after Malibu, California was introduced in 1964 as a top of the line sub series of the full size Chevelle. A lot of body styles were offered under the Malibu name including a four door sedan and a sporty 2 door coupe called the Malibu SS In 1966 Chevy replaced the Malibu SS with a new Chevelle SS featuring a big block V8 engine. The interior featured an all vinyl bench seat and other equipment that was similar to the Malibu SS. The Malibu's have seen many changes through out the years. And the present generation of Malibu engines are no exception. These engines have aluminum blocks and heads,dual overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, twin balance shafts, and variable valve timing. For 2009 Chevrolet has included Onstar and a standard feature for all Malibu's. Safety features have also been upgraded such as the six airbags which include two dual-stage front bags, two side-impact curtain air bags protecting the heads of both front and rear passengers, and two side-impact thorax bags mounted in the front seats.
