used Cadillac Eldorado engines

The Cadillac Eldorado has been around for quite along time. Though production ended on the vehicle in 2002, the model was produced for nearly 50 years, starting in 1953. In fact, the Eldorado currently holds the title for being the longest running American personal luxury. For three years, from 1999 until production halted in 2002, it was the only personal luxury car being produced.

The name for the vehicle came about through a competition won by a secretary within the company’s merchandising department. Her name was Mary-Ann Zukosky Marini. The car was intended to be a special show car as a limited edition convertible.

As can be expected with long running production models, the Cadillac Eldorado underwent major design changes as it cruised through the 50′s, 60′s and 70′s. Undergoing various options and introducing new innovations. In 1956, a two door hard top coupe was introduced. It had tagged on names such as the Eldorado Brougham and the Eldorado Seville also.

At the end of the seventies, the Eldorado was once again redesigned and smaller engines were introduced to improve fuel mileage. These included the 350 cu in 5.7 liter engine and the 368 cu in 6.0 Liter engine. In the nineties, a new Cadillac Eldorado Touring Coupe was added to the line up. The eighth and final generation of the Cadillac Eldorado began in 1992 and ran for the next two years. This was reduced to a two door coupe only and included two engines. The first was a 4.9 L L26 V8 engine that was included from 1992 to 1993. The final engine to be placed into the Eldorado would be the 4.6 L Northstar V8 engine. The transmissions for the eighth generation included the four speed 4T60-E automatic transmission and the four speed 4T80-E automatic transmission. Though sales were good throughout the 90′s, the Eldorado never again saw the record sales it had acheived in the past. Finally, General Motors made the announcement that 2002 would be the final production year for the historic Cadillac Eldorado.
