Used Ford Probe Engines

The Ford Probe was produced by Ford Motor company from 1989 through 1997. It was a joint venture undertaken by Ford and Mazda to replace the Ford EXP. The Probe was built completely on Mazda's G platform and there was some talk of using it to replace the Ford Mustang.

The first models were built with unique sheet metal and given an interior that was borrowed from the FCRX-7, a sports coupe already produced by Mazda. The engine options included in the first generation Probes included a 2.2 L with 120 hp and a 2.2 Liter Turbo enginewith 145 hp. Transmissions for the vehicle included a four speed automatic and a five speed manual transmission.

.By 1992, a slightly redesigned Probe was debuted in December of that year for the 1993 model year. Assembled by AutoAlliance International in Flat Rock, Michigan, two trim levels were offered. The base model, Probe GL had a starting price at $13,000 and came with a 2.0 I4 engine as the standard motor. It was given a performance instrument cluster with a tachometer and electronic AM/FM stereo, also as standard equipment.

The Probe GT was a intended as the sportier model and had a starting price of $15,504. Standard equipment for this upgraded version included a 2.5 Liter V6 engine Good year Gatorback tires, five spoke aluminum wheels and foglights.

The Probe was never the success that Ford hoped it would be and because of the high price and lack of originality in its design. For the price, most consumers could choose a more prestigous vehicle. The Ford Probe was discontinued after 1997.
